Mekena C., MS, LPCC, LADC

Mekena Coakley
CounselorMekena graduated from University of Wisconsin- Stout with her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and concentrations in child and adolescent counseling and substance use disorders. She obtained her license as a licensed alcohol and drug counselor (LADC). Before joining NUWAY, Mekena gained experience working with a variety of populations including adults treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders and working with children/adolescents and their caregivers providing individual and family therapy services across Minnesota. Along with her LADC, Mekena is also receiving clinical supervision to become a licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC). Her clinical interests include trauma, anxiety and depression, attachment, and reducing the shame and stigma of mental health and substance use disorders. Mekena takes a Cognitive-Behavioral, Mindfulness, and Person-Centered therapeutic approach to foster growth and best serve the individual needs of each client. In her free time, Mekena enjoys cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.
